We keep as little about you as we can

Last updated 27 October 2026

You can watch every video and use every essay without giving us anything. There are no accounts, no logins and no advertising trackers. The only personal information we hold is your email address, and only if you sign up for the newsletter.

The newsletter

• What we keep: your email address, when you signed up, and whether you open or click our emails.
• Who stores it: Kit (kit.com), the service that sends our emails. Kit is based in the United States, so your address is stored there under Kit's data protection safeguards.
• Why: to send you new videos and essays, because you asked us to (your consent).
• How long: until you unsubscribe. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or email us and we'll remove you.
• We never sell or share your address, and we don't send anyone else's offers.

Visiting the site

• The site is hosted on Cloudflare. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn't identify you: we see totals, like how many people read a page, not who you are.
• The fonts come from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for them, which shares your IP address with Google.
• Some videos play from YouTube. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play; then the video comes from YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com), under Google's privacy policy.
• The site itself sets no cookies, so there's no cookie banner.
• The "your numbers" tools in the essays run only in your browser. Nothing you type into them is sent to us.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or withdraw your consent at any time. Email [email protected] and we'll reply within a month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
